Electric vehicles (EV's) are the future, but they require slight lifestyle changes in order to be useful. Additionally, each automaker currently has their own preferred methods and ports for charging their electric vehicles. While steps are being taken to normalize charging, EV's still aren’t as uniform as gas-powered cars. Some chargers are made for specific types of EVs. Tesla, for example, has their own “Superchargers” that only work on their vehicles.
We have the expertise to install specialized car chargers for any EV (electric vehicle) and can install charging units at your home or business today. We can discuss your options for either a detached or an attached garage.
We are your local electricians and are proud to represent "Nordeast" Minneapolis! Look no further for a licensed electrician near you, we're here to help.
You can charge your EV using a standard 120-volt outlet (Level 1). Assuming a proper adapter is used, this will work, but it's slow! To charge efficiently, all electric cars currently on the market require a 240-volt power outlet (Level 2), which means an entirely new dedicated circuit will need to be installed.
This is where Nordeast Electric shines! We’ve installed electric car chargers for every make and model available, and we would be happy to help you embrace the new technology.
There is also an option for a separate service, which is great way for a detached garage to get power without taking away from the main service panel. This eliminates the need for trenching to the garage; win-win!
Uniformity in electric car charging is coming, but it isn’t there yet. With traditional gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, we expect to pull up to any gas station and fill up our tank without worrying about the make or model of our car. Electric cars aren’t quite so simple, but charging stations are beginning to show up at more and more gas stations and parking areas.
If you would like to be the next business to provide a station or would like one at the convenience of your own home, call us today to learn more or to schedule a charger installation!
